ALMA DE MEXICO ST LOUIS
The Mexican Dance Group “Alma de Mexico” has been active in St Louis, MO for years, under the direction of Octavio Nieto.
Octavio Nieto
Founder Octavio Nieto, founder and Artistic Director of the group Alma de Mexico St. Louis, began his dancing career in Guadalajara Mexico. He has studied, performed and mastered a variety of dance styles including Mexican folklore, Spanish/Flamenco, tap, jazz, ballroom and modern. His training at the Royal Academy of Dancing in London, the American Ballet Center (Joffrey Ballet School), David Howard Studio and the New York Conservatory of Dance allowed him to perfect and master his skills. In St. Louis, Octavio served as a main dancer and Assistant Ballet Master at the St. Louis Ballet. In addition to being Alma de Mexico's choreographer, Octavio is a periodic guest choreographer and dance instructor throughout the St. Louis region and in Mexico.

Gabriela Cornelius
Group Coordinator Gabriela Cornelius, Alma de Mexico St. Louis Group Coordinator and member of the dance group joined “Alma de Mexico” in 2012, under the direction of Octavio Nieto. She has since mastered her dance skills and eloquently displays her abilities at every performance. In addition to her commitment to Alma de Mexico, Gabriela's passion and drive for dance technique perfection has driven her to hone her dance techniques by taking private lessons with dance professor, Taide Colin and in 2018 she broadened her dance techniques by taking Flamenco lessons with Marisela Salascruz, Artistic Director of St Louis Flamenco Society. Her love for dance has driven her to perform in a variety of events with the St Louis Cultural Flamenco Society and with Alma de Mexico.

Dance GroupRepertoire
The group repertoire includes folkloric dances from the states Jalisco, Veracruz, Yucatan, Chiapas, Campeche, Guerreo, Oaxaca, Monterey, Puebla, Michoacán and Tamaulipas.

The Festival of Nations, The VP Fair (4th of July), Hispanic Festivals, History Museum, Art Museum, Dancing in the street, The Cinco de Mayo (On Cherokee Street), the Mexican Independence Gala as well as a variety of of Universities, Businesses, Dance Companies & private events. |
